For the reason that every tissue in the human body is made of a large percentage of water, people should drink more of it, if they want to keep it working well. According to the statistics, the kidneys and muscles consist 73% water, the blood 83%, the brain is 76% water, while the lungs are 90% water. So, the daily intake of water for women should be about 9 cups, and the men should stick to 12 cups of water.

The color of urine in healthy individuals is light yellow. But, in case of the deficiency of water in the body, the kidneys will release more waste material in the urine, such as dead blood cells, proteins, and toxins. The color of such urine is a dark color.
Because of using some medication (B vitamins) and food coloring (blackberries, beets, asparagus,) the color of your urine may be affected.
When you notice that your urine color has changed, you can increase the intake of water, in order to make it lighter. If the color is not lighter, you are probably suffering a severe condition like hepatitis or gallstones.
Reduced urine output
Healthy individuals urinate 6-7 times a day. When the body is dehydrated, then the fluid that is excreted cannot be replaced, and the kidneys will retain more fluids in order to prevent further dehydration. Whenever you do not go to the bathroom as mentioned, you should consider drinking more water.
One of the reasons of the constipation is a dehydrated body, why the body draws water from every tissue, including the colon. In case of deficiency of the water in the large intestine, it doesn’t work properly, and you can stick with constipation. If you want to prevent this you should drink more water.
Constipation also can be caused by insufficient physical activity, inflammation of the intestines, hypothyroidism, dysbiosis, chronic stress, and food sensitivities.
Dry and wrinkled skin
Another consequence of the dehydration of the body, according to Dr. Diana Howard, is the irritated, inflamed, sensitive and itchy skin. In case of more serious condition, you may face a red skin, bleeds, and cracks. In addition, dehydration contributes to the formation of wrinkles.

Hunger and weight gain
Even the human body looks like perfect, it is unable to make a difference between hunger and thirst. This is the responsibility of the hypothalamus, which controls both of them, so it can misinterpret thirst for hunger, and if the people have a snack every time when are thirsty, they will gain weight.
But if you do the opposite, to drink a cup of water when you are hungry, you may not starve for that food you wanted. But, after 15 minutes if you still like to eat that sandwich, you should go for it.
Thirst and dry mouth
Being thirsty means that the body is already dehydrated, so dry mouth is also a common sign. To prevent the dehydration it is better to give your body some water.
When the body lacks water it draws water from every organ and tissue, so it gets water from your brain, too. The lack of water causes the brain to lose its moisture and shrink, or pull away from the skull. When that happens it activates the pain receptors and causes a nasty headache. Deficiency of water intake reduces the volume of your blood and also reduces the amount of oxygen that gets to the brain, which causes headaches.
The conducted study in 2011 showed that the mild dehydration leads to fatigue, lack of energy and tiredness. When the body is dehydrated the heart works harder to move the oxygen and nutrients throughout the system. Feeling tired doesn’t mean that the cup of coffee will make you feel better, but drink a glass of water. This is because coffee and other caffeinated drinks will only dehydrate your body even more.

The lack of water increases the number of toxins in your blood, which negatively affects the immune function in the body. Drinking plenty of water helps in detoxification of the body and increases the immunity to fight against infections.
Avoid or reduce your intake of sugary juices and coffee, because they dehydrate the tissues due to their high caffeine and sugar content.
