Vinegar has a long history of therapeutic use since its discovery some 7000 years ago. Originally it was used as a food preservative but very soon its medical uses came to light.
Hippocrates used vinegar to treat the common cold and Cleopatra and Hannibal from Carthage were among its fans. Later, medical practitioners from the 1700s used vinegar to treat everything from poison ivy to stomach aches. Sometimes it was even used to treat diabetes.
Lately, people are using vinegar to treat different diseases and health issues, for prevention of heart disease and weight loss.
There are no official guidelines about the daily intake but most people take 1 or 2 teaspoons a day mixed in a glass of water in order to feel its benefits. The risk of taking small amounts of vinegar is very low and you might benefit greatly from it. Some of my favorite apple cider benefits are:
- Healthy Blood Sugar
The strong anti-glycemic properties of apple cider vinegar are helpful in regulating the blood sugar levels. Some recent studies claim that it obstructs the digestion of sugars and simple carbohydrates and can also lower the insulin response.
- Powerful antioxidant
ACV is rich in antioxidants. It includes gallic acid, caffeic, catechin and chlorogenic acids that mitigate the oxidizing impact of stress and support the body’s immunity.
- Healthy Cholesterol
ACV is able to maintain the triglyceride and cholesterol levels and also prevent arterial damage or oxidation.
- Heartburn and Acid Reflux
One tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar mixed in a glass of water will help you get rid of acid reflux. Acid reflux is caused by low amounts of acid in the stomach and ACV will help you solve these issues successfully.
- Improves Nutrient Absorption
It has been proven that ACV can slow gastric emptying and thus is allows the food to be more effectively broken down in your stomach. This means a better assimilation of nutrients. Just add it to the salad dressing and you are ready to go!
- Weight Loss
If you are struggling to lose some excess pounds, ACV is your solution. The acetic acid that is contained in ACV, accelerates your metabolism and reduces the water retention.
- Sinus Congestion
ACV can successfully dissolve mucus and that is why it is very useful in case of sinus congestion. Its powerful antibacterial properties also make it an effective treatment for infections.
The anti-fungal properties of the apple cider vinegar can effectively eliminate Candida. 1 tablespoon of ACV taken daily for a 2 months period will help you efficiently treat oral Candida.
- In order to obtain best results, always buy organic raw unfiltered ACV.
- If you decide to drink ACV daily, just add 2 tablespoons in a glass of water and add lemon juice or honey to taste.
- If you can’t bare the taste, you can always add it to your salad dressing or used it in other dishes. Just make sure you include ACV in your diet.
